On the 10th of May, there was an extraordinary concert at “Nordea Kontserdimaja” by Deva Premal and Miten with Manos. Different kinds of powersongs and mantras were performed. Deva and Miten encouraged the audience to sing along, everyone joined hands and all the concerte-hall was filled with wonderful and powerful mantras!
Mantras and powersongs help to heal the people and our surroundings, as Deva pointed out. The athmosphere was more like a pleasent gathering at a powersong evening than a formal show.
Deva Premal and Miten met in India in 1990 and began their journey together in love and creativity, where they brought together their unique and inspiring mix of songs, mantras and meditation to a worldwide audience.
Their music transcends all common musical boundaries. Figures such as the best-selling author and spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle, who describes their music as “Pure Magic”, have expressed their enthusiasm towards and liking of the music of Deva Premal and Miten.
Hollywood icon Cher called Devas album, The Essence her “favorite CD for Yoga”. It is said that His Holiness the Dalai Lama likes to listen to their music in his private time, and as Deva and Miten once chanted his favorite mantra in a private concert, he exclaimed, “Beautiful music, beautiful…!” Motivational guru Anthony Robbins describes their music as “Passionate and powerful.” Their concerts and workshops are more than music – they are invitations to shared deep moments of silence and meditation. Their listeners all over the world are discovering the transformative magic of mantra chanting. A workshop participant from Germany writes: “The workshop in Cologne filled me with such joy, openness, and simple happiness… I’m moving again.” Their European tour in 2016 together with the Nepalese master of the Bansuri flute, Manose, she brings this happiness to many cities in Germany and Bulgaria, England, Holland, Greece, Slovenia, Hungary, Spain, Lithuania, Switzerland, Russia, and Turkey.
More about mantras: The mantras that we chant are in Sanskrit – a sacred language of ancient India that is no longer spoken. The mantras were created by the rishis (wise ones) as paths to awareness, using the power of particular sounds to create specific energy responses. In Sanskrit, ‘man’ means mind and ‘tra’ means ‘to free from’, so ‘mantra’ is literally a tool to free the mind. Mantras are energetic sound formulas. Sanskrit carries the essence of the object or quality it describes. It is not descriptive, as is our language – it is the actual sound equivalent of the manifestation. Hence, ananda, chanted repeatedly, will bring one into a state of bliss, because ananda is the essential sound of bliss.
It is not likely to hear Deva Premal’s performance within upcoming year in Estonia, but the “Taevas ja Maa” Centre will conitnue to carry on with its series of events performing powersongs and mantras.
You are the most welcomed to join in and enjoy the performances of the best Estonian mantra-performers!
